We offer support in National Curriculum subjects, including English, Mathematics and French and help children to reach their full potential in all areas of learning.

Students often need support in a particular subject at different stages in their development or when preparing for SATs tests or the Common Entrance exam.

English
Praecept tutors use a variety of interesting resources, including quality literature, games, video, and interactive websites to encourage and support children’s development of Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing and Spelling, including;

• Decoding and word recognition
• Understanding, interpreting and responding to texts
• Encoding, Word structure and spelling
• Structuring and organising texts
• Sentence structure and punctuation
• Presentation and handwriting
• Reading for meaning
• Composition: generating ideas, planning and drafting

Mathematics
Our tutors use a variety of visual and concrete resources, such as Dienes base 10 apparatus, Cuisenaire rods, games and interactive ICT software, to support children’s understanding of Number, Algebra, Handling data, Shape, Space and Measures, including ;

• Problem solving, communicating and reasoning
• Number operations and the relationship between then
• Pattern in Number and Number facts
• Mental and written calculations
• Place value and the number system
• Fractions and decimals
• Accuracy & estimation
• Ratio & percentages

French
We use a range of attractive resources to support the development of communication and literacy skills in the French language, including Listening and Responding, Speaking, Reading and Responding and Writing. Children are encouraged to;

• Express themselves and communicate in the foreign language
• Listen carefully in order to discriminate sounds, identify meaning and develop auditory awareness
• Develop correct pronunciation and intonation
• Master techniques for memorizing words, phrases and short extracts
• Use context and clues to interpret meaning
• Ask and answer questions
• Make use of their knowledge of English or another language in learning the foreign language
• Develop their understanding of the grammatical structure of the language
